FRUGAL DAYS OUT IN LONDON:
RAINY DAY FRIENDLY!
6. Ride the Routemaster
Cost: £1.50 for adults; free for under 11s
The top deck of a double decker is more fun than a
tourist bus (and cheaper!). Try the no. 11, which passes
the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey,
Horse Guards Parade and St Paul’s.
7. Horniman Museum
Cost: Free (aquarium - £4 for adults, £2 for kids)
A fascinating museum for all ages with an aquarium
downstairs. It has large gardens with plenty of space
for picnics and letting off steam.
8. The Royal Academy of Art
Cost: Free
The Royal Academy regularly runs
free family workshops. Afterwards,
kids can play in the fountains outside
or stroll to Piccadilly Circus. Or go
to Hamleys and forget about
money-saving!
9. The British Library
Cost: Free
The British Library has a great kids’
treasure trail. Go up to George III’s
85,000 book-tower, down to the
printing press and over to the library’s
Listening Project. Don’t forget to check out
the Magna Carta.
10. The Ragged School Museum
Cost: Free
Every month the museum hosts a typical Victorian
school lesson in their authentic classroom. There are
always family activities on so it’s worth a visit.
