Get involved with Seed

Seed is able to create and run programmes for thousands of participants across the country thanks to the incredible dedication of our supporters. Not only those who support us financially, but also the volunteers who get involved in our work.

See below all the different ways you can get involved with Seed.

DONATE

Seed’s mission is to enhance family life and strengthen Jewish identity from the inside out. It is only with your support that Seed can continue to change lives and generations.

We are deeply grateful for all donations and contributions, which can be made on our website, through direct debit, via post or just by calling us on 020 8958 0820.

Volunteer

Seed has a range of volunteering opportunities available throughout the year.

These include office support, helping set up and run events at our centres, and assisting with arts and crafts activities in schools.

There are also a wide range of opportunities to help out at our Shabbatonim and seminars. These include running children’s programmes, setting up the dining room, supporting kitchen staff and assisting our team of educators.

To find out more about how you can get involved, contact Sharon sharon@seedfamilies.co.uk or call us on 020 8958 0820.

CHALLENGE YOURSELF

Challenge yourself and fundraise for Seed through our partners at Charity Extra. In June 2017 Seed ran its first ever National Three Peaks Challenge. The 22 participants ascended the 3 highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales – Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis in Snowdon – in just 24 hours, had a great time and raised over £50,000 for Seed.

To find out about upcoming challenges you can take part in for Seed, contact Robyn at 020 8958 0820 or robyn@seed.uk.net.

Or if you want to take part in your own challenge for Seed – either as an individual or as part of a private group – you can set up your fundraising page at https://www.charityextra.com/charity/seed

Legacy

Leaving a legacy is a wonderful and tax efficient way of supporting a worthy cause.

A charitable gift in your will can be deducted from the value of your estate prior to its assessment for inheritance tax purposes.

You can leave either a share of your estate, a specific sum or a gift of shares, property or other valuable items to seed. If you decide to leave a legacy there are four main types to consider:

  • Residuary bequest means you can leave the remainder of your estate to seed after all your other wishes have been carried out and all expenses relating to your estate have been met. This kind of gift is of the greatest benefit to us as its value increases in line with the value of your estate.
  • Pecuniary bequest is a fixed donation to be left to seed. The value of pecuniary legacies decrease over time as a result of inflation so you can index link your donation to ensure it retains its original value.
  • Specific bequest allows a particular named item of value, such as jewellery or an antique to be donated to seed.
  • Reversionary bequest is where you give a friend or family member a life interest in your estate for them to enjoy during their lifetime and after their death the remainder of your estate is left to seed.

It is strongly recommended that you consult a Solicitor when making or changing your will. This will ensure the legacy clause is correctly included and the will or codicil is properly executed. There are some clauses below which may help you or your Solicitor to draft a clause in your will.

If you would like to leave a legacy or discuss this further, please contact Robyn at 020 8958 0820 or robyn@seed.uk.net.

Suggested wording to give to your Solicitor:

The receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of Seed shall be a full and sufficient discharge of my executors.

PECUNIARY LEGACY (a set sum)
I bequeath the sum of [insert sum] to the Trustees of Seed (Registered Charity No. 1155460) for the general purposes of the charity. The receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of Seed shall be a full and sufficient discharge of my executors.

SPECIFIC LEGACY (a names item)
I bequeath to the Trustees of Seed (Registered Charity No. 1155460) absolutely my (name and description of item). The receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or other proper officer for the time being of Seed shall be a full and sufficient discharge of my executors.

Corporate Sponsorship

Corporate sponsors are valued contributors to Seed’s fundraising campaigns and events, and can benefit from increased brand awareness throughout the community.

Whatever the size of your organisation or the level of commitment you can give, getting involved with Seed can benefit your business. You can get involved in any of the following ways:

  • Sponsor a fundraising event
  • Attend a fundraising event
  • Advertise in one of our publications
  • Employee fundraising
  • Corporate donations
  • Support us through Payroll Giving

Direct Debit

Being able to rely on regular monthly donations is hugely beneficial for Seed as a charity. It helps us to budget more accurately and there is much less administration involved for our finance team.
